Say hello to Missy. She is both beautiful and smart and ready to find her furever family.  She loves people, especially ones who pet her. She loves going on long walks, playing with her humans and taking short naps. She also enjoys car rides and playing with other dogs at the dog park.

Missy is a super smart girl, learns easily and is treat motivated. She is completely housebroken and has had no accidents in the house. She knows her basic commands as well as “shake” and “high five”.  She walks well on a leash and knows “stop”, “slow”, “turn” and when crossing a busy intersection, “let’s cross”. She is a medium drive border collie who likes her play time but is also content being pet and taking a nap close to her people. She lets you know if someone is approaching the house, especially the mailman. She loves car rides and knows she gets to go when foster dad picks up his car keys!

Like many rescue dogs, Missy was lacking some self confidence when she first came to us. But now she is beginning to show interest in squeaky toys and rope toys and is beginning to play fetch with her foster dad.  She has definitely become stronger and more confident over the past month.  Missy does have a little separation anxiety, preferring not to be left alone in her kennel, though she is improving. She goes into her crate easily but is a little anxious when she is crated and left alone. She has even escaped out of a double locked crate, leading us to call her Missy Houdini. Remember when we said how smart she was?

Missy is a little skittish around people on bikes, scooters and very small children.  Because of this, we are recommending only older children in her new home. She has not been around cats, but she is very interested in squirrels, so we recommend she have a securely fenced yard.

With continued love, patience and training Missy will flourish in her forever home. Her foster dad even thinks that with the right training, she would make a wonderful therapy dog to take into nursing homes and retirement communities.  Foster dad says, “everywhere we go, people are just gravitated toward her and she loves the attention and people”.

Missy is about 4 years old, 50#, up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is heartworm negative and spayed. She does have a mild hip dysplasia, but that doesn’t slow her down. She takes daily joint supplements that she should continue to take in her forever home, and should keep up her daily exercise.

Missy is being fostered in the Kansas City area.
